What is the book of Isaiah about?

The book of Isaiah is the first book of the Prophets. The primary task of all the prophets was to call the Israelites back to faithfulness to their covenant with God.

This book is about the people of Judah under the reign of King Hezekiah and King Uzziah. You could look at this book in two parts: The first 39 chapters as "the book of judgement" and chapter 40-66 as the book of comfort or deliverance.

In chapters 6 & 7 you can read into detail about Isaiah's vision from the Lord to become a prophet and the coming of the savior called Immanuel (Jesus)!

Who wrote the book of Isaiah?

This book was written by the prophet Isaiah himself.

Who is the audience?

The people of Judah and Jerusalem.

Timeframe Isaiah was written:

Written sometime between 740-680 BC in the year that king Uzziah died (6:1).

"In short" (One sentence summary):

Isaiah tells Judah they should repent for living in sin will cause their destruction. He also prophesied in detail that a coming Messiah will deliver us from sin (some 700 years later)! 

Fun facts about Isaiah/Did you know?

Isaiah warned Judah that their sin would eventually bring captivity at the hands of Babylonia. This ends up coming to fruition at around 586 BC.
