The Book of Jeremiah

What is the book of Jeremiah about?

The book of Jeremiah is about a prophet who was mocked, beaten, and even imprisoned in a muddy well (chapter 38) for his prophesies. He was timid by nature but received assurance from the Lord that he would become strong and courageous. Because he was a prophet of doom, so to speak, he only had a few friends (Ahikam, Gedaliah, and Ebed-Melek) along with a faithful scribe named Baruch.

Before Jeremiah was born, God knew and appointed him as a prophet (1:5). The book of Jeremiah covers his life and prophesies to the people of Judah. They are still living in sin and he tries to warn them of their impending doom if they did not turn back to God.

Jeremiah eventually realizes the destruction of Judah by the Babylonians was imminent because of their hardened hearts. God gave them about ~40 years to repent and keep their covenant with Him, but to no avail.
