Joel told the people of Judah that this is nothing in comparison to the impending judgement of the Lord. On that day of judgement, God will separate the righteous from the unrighteous, and his ultimate punishment will be upon mankind. Those who have trusted the Lord will receive the ultimate blessing.
However, they still have time to repent for their obedience will bring physical and spiritual renewal.
God wants everyone to receive his blessing, but because he is a just God, those who reject him and his call to turn and repent will receive judgement that they cannot escape.
