What is the book of Micah about?

The book of Micah discusses the prophet's prophecies of doom and hope, judgement and deliverance. He expresses to the people that God hates idolatry, injustice, and empty ritualism.  However, God delights in pardoning those who are remorseful for their sins and repent.

Micah ultimately chastises the northern and southern kingdoms for worshipping false gods and cheating the poor.  The two nations will be devastated by the Assyrians, but God will preserve "the remnant of Israel" (2:12).

Who wrote the book of Micah?

The author of Micah is either himself or another who dictated for him.

Who is the audience?

The people of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah, especially the oppressors who supported Israel's corruption.

Hundreds of years before Jesus' birth, Micah predicted the town where it would happen:  "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel" (Micah 5:2).
