The Book of Ruth

What is the book of Ruth about?

The book of Ruth outlines the events in the life of a Gentile woman named Ruth, who married into a Jewish family.  Tragedy struck when all the men in her family died.  What is pleasantly surprising is that she showed complete dedication to Naomi (her mother-in-law) and God by sticking with her and returning to Naomi's home in Bethlehem which was foreign to her.  There, she meets Boaz because she is working in his grain field.  He takes a liking to her and they eventually marry.

Her choice to remain faithful to God brings her blessings of a husband and son.  This is the continuation of a prominent family line!  Ruth becomes the great-grandmother to David, the future king to all of Israel.  This family line leads to Jesus.

The author of Ruth is unknown.  Some suggest Samuel but it is unlikely due to mentions of David (a future occurrence).
